BARON PIZZINI’S PINK VERTICAL IN FLORENCE’S PORTINARI SALON

Pizzini was held in Florence. In my opinion, it is certainly among the top five producers of Italian sparkling wines.

The event was organized by Multimedia, in Florence at Vito Mollica’s Portinari salon. Stefano Donarini, owner of Multimedia PR, does an excellent job of organizing an event.

Of course, Dr. Silvano Brescianini, a partner in the company, and several industry journalists were also present at the event.

For the occasion, Vito Mollica created a menu to pair with the sparkling wines at the tasting. The wines on offer ranged from 2021 to 2011.

with the “Butter-seared scallops with vegetable ciambotta and saffron sauce.”

Next up was the “citrus fruit and red prawn risotto” paired with the 2019 and 2018 editions, a perfect pairing.

The diners’ mouths continued to rejoice as they savored the “Guinea Fowl Supreme with Porcini Mushrooms” paired with the 2017 edition.

With the ” Cheesecake Pudding with Mango Sorbet” we wet our mouths with the very pleasant 2016 edition, but the height of pleasure, both olfactory and gustatory, came when we were served the Franciacorta Bagnadore Rosé 2011.

2011 was an exceptional vintage in Franciacorta and this Bagnadore is proof of that.

I must say that ever since I discovered the sparkling wines from Barone Pizzini, I fell in love with them, even if at first the bubbles were a bit aggressive and the acidity was a bit unbalanced.

Over time, the wines have improved significantly and have fine, caressing bubbles on the palate with a mitigated, present but not aggressive acidity.

It was a very pleasant meeting and the opportunity to review the vintages produced. I’ve always maintained that doing a vertical tasting (i.e., multiple vintages) of the same wine helps you understand the company and its terroir .

Let’s now move on to describing the wines of the vertical tasting.
